Self-Love in December: Why Discipline is the Kindest Form of Self-Care

It’s December, I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly. This time of year can be a mixed bag of emotions and also realizing and reflecting on our goals for the past and how far we’ve come. Or how far we’ve fallen off or how we never even started. And hey whatever it is, with your weight or health, It’s important to give yourself grace and kindness. Let’s be real—life is complex, and we all deserve support as we navigate these challenges.

So instead of focusing on how bad we look, or feel let’s focus on self-love.

I’m not talking fluffy self-love, because true self-love comes from the not so fancy or sexy stuff: discipline, consistency and taking personal responsibility.

Pillar 1: Self love is self-acceptance.

We need to accept where am I now, accept what’s past and accept what I can do NOW. It’s accepting that you have the power and ability to make changes. It’s not up to your doctor, your friends, your family or even your coach to help you make health changes. Accept your body, for the way it is right now. And know that you’re the only one who can change it.

Accept that there are things you cannot do or change for now, and focus on what you can do. This shift in thinking can allow you to come from a space of peace and empowerment rather than a state of frustration and lack.

  • How many times a week can I workout?
  • How can I add in more nutritious quality foods?
  • What can I do today?
  • What am I ready, willing and able to implement now?

Pillar 2: Self-love is self-awareness.

Most days we are on autopilot repeating the same habits and thoughts. We have over 6,000 thoughts per day, if you keep repeating the same thoughts you will have the same results.

  • What am I thinking and doing everyday?
  • Am I being present in the moment?
  • What or how am I moving my body today?
  • What am I eating? How am I eating? Am I rushing, or being mindful?

Bring awareness to what you’re doing with the foods you’re eating, your movement, your emotions, your thoughts and moods. What you’re doing and not doing everyday is going to move you closer or further to your goals. I highly recommend writing it down and tracking it, you can’t change what you’re not aware of. And that’s why I created the 90 day wellness journal. Because it takes more than just 21 days to create long lasting healthy habits.

Pillar 3: Self- love is patience.

Please understand that it takes time and that the healing journey doesn’t have an end destination. The point isn’t being perfect at this, the point isn’t judging yourself. Bring acceptance and awareness without any judgement. Hear the judgement, and let it go, don’t fight it, just be aware that you have these judgements.

When we can start changing the way we think about ourself and about what we’re doing we can make sustainable and effective change. It’s not always about being the fastest and it’s not just how you look. It’s how your body is being fueled every day and being taken care of. Cheers to an amazing month focusing on self-acceptance and self-awareness with plenty of kindness and grace this holiday season!! 💗

These are my favorite night market staple since childhood. They’re crispy, chewy and airy. And so addictive. This is a classic taiwanese street food you must try!

They also have a variety of topics you can choose from including plum powder. I like mine plain.

Taipei has so many different types of food and restuarants! If you don’t know there are plenty of vegetarian options and even halal ones.

This one was an entirely vegetarian restuarant. I also highly recommend their Buddha bowls. It’s sister stores with popular bagel: Miopane

If you want incredible, crispy Peking duck in a mo If you want incredible, crispy Peking duck in a modern and fresh way, Xiang Duck is the place for you!!

The best part is if you only have 2 people, you can get half a duck instead of the whole thing! Which most places do not offer.

It’s part of the wowprime group, and the quality of ingredients is always very good. I’ve tried many of their restaurants and they’re all great!

My must orders:
- Peking duck
- Duck lettuce wrap
- golden tofu pot

I shared more of my experience on my blog, and also how to make reservations. 💕

They also have cheesecakes and ice cream, and I’ll def have to go back and try them!

Everything you need to know before visiting the St Everything you need to know before visiting the Starbucks Reserve™ Dream Plaza in Taipei, Taiwan. It’s the largest flagship store in the entire Asia-Pacific region, located inside Dream Plaza in the Xinyi district, right next to the 24-hour bookstore. It’s a beautiful space with artwork that’s colorful and bright, and the rooftop has some of the best views of Taipei 101. 🏙️

They’ve recently made some changes to how you reserve seats and updated the purchase minimums (as of April 2026). I wanted to share a quick guide on how to make the best of your visit so you don’t have to figure it out on your own—like which entrance to use if you’re arriving in the morning!

Some special highlights of this location: it’s one of the few with an actual Teavana bar, a bar for coffee-infused cocktails, and a Siren Lounge. I personally love the Teavana bar—that’s where I usually get my favorite tea latte drinks. All of their food and pastries, whether savory or sweet, are quite good. 🥐☕️
