I don’t even know how I managed to do that!! But I was devouring books left and right this month. I tend to go through bouts of reading like this, and then read nothing. I’ve been having so much fun reading for the enjoyment. It’s really not about reading a lot of books in a month it just happened by accident haha. I found my favorite heart wrenching duology, and got into the craze of Off Campus. Some had a lot of spice 🥵 🌶️, and some had none. I honestly feel like I’m a little bit too generous with my ratings! Here’s everything I read and what I rate them.

My Top 5 Picks

1. Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem – 4.5⭐️ / 1🌶️ (The Scorched Throne Duology)
The first book I read this month, and honestly, it completely ruined me. It completely set the bar too high for the rest of May. Sylvia needs to train and competes to be the champion of the shadow prince. She’s a strong fiesty FMC that doesn’t get annoying. She struggles with being the lost heir and rediscovering her magic. It has plenty of tension, banter, and a slow burn enemies to lovers, as well as ride-or-die friendships. I love when its not always about the romance which it wasn’t at all. It takes place in an Egyptian inspired world, which was so lovely to experience. I immediately had to read the 2nd book which is next on the list.
2. Jasad Crown by Sara Hashem – 5⭐️ / 2 🌶️ (The Scorched Throne Duology)
It gets intense as Sylvia attempts to take back her throne. There is fighting, war, and an unnecessary death that I really try to believe did not happen, and that they’re still alive. Of course, more slow burn, and enemies to lovers, but more lovers now. There is a bit of humor sprinkled in both books. The affection and love is so subtle, they never even say I love you. This duology completely has my heart, it had me balling, even long after I read it. As I’m thinking about it now, I still feel the pangs of it. Some people hated the ending, and I can totally understand that because it doesn’t feel like enough after all we went through. But I thought it was also very beautiful, and quiet.
3. Starside by Alex Aster – 5⭐️ / 5🌶️
I needed to cure my book hangover after reading the first two. I kept seeing this on TikTok, and I really loved the concepts of having chosen swords which is a very unique idea I never heard of. The world is divided by the mortal, and the immortal side. Every 50 years, they have a kill to the death competition to win a cup of immortal magic. But Aris, the fmc, is not in it for the magic, she’s in it to kill the immortal who killed her family. She has to team up with an unlikely partner, Raker. It’s very enemies to lover, slowburn, with lots of fantasy elements including a magical ball, dragons. Some of it was a bit much but I was okay with it. It has a massive plot twist at the end that completely shook me to my core, it was so unexpected. I cannot wait until her next book!
4. The Deal by Elle Kennedy – 4⭐️ / 5🌶️
I got sucked immediately into the new Off Campus show. I instantly fell in love with it, it reminds me of the old movies and shows like One Tree Hill, and 10 things I hate about you. Also, safe healthy love, and consent, bringing back lovers. I love Garret and Hannah, so far they are my favorite couple of the series. I had to read the book, because I was so hungover from the show. I’m actually obsessed with the entire cast like Hello Belmont Cameli. They changed a couple things, and made it more suited to the current times. Book Garret is so much more funny, not as serious, and book Hannah is so much more fierce. We get more of them building their friendship first. I honestly loved both the show and book. They both had me kicking my feet, and giggling like a school girl.
5. The Comeback by Lily Chu – 5⭐️ / 2🌶️
This was the very last book I read last month. I love Lily Chu, her books are always so fun and funny, and I adore that she always uses strong asian female characters and of course, asian mmc. She does it so well. She makes me feel so seen, and understood, when she mentions the struggles of being Asian in Canada, which is so similar to my experiences growing up as an Asian American. She does it so effortless so its so easy to relate to her characters. We have Ari, who is a serious lawyer who is all work trying to make partner. In comes her roommate’s Cousin, who’s nursing a heartbreak and crashing at their place. It’s essentially a kpop rom com, it was so funny, and touching. I loved the moments in South Korea. I cried so much, everything was so touching. And her character truly evolved beyond her job title, to find a something and someone she loves. It almost felt like they wouldn’t make it but they did. (It’s free on Kindle Unlimited.)
The Rest of the Stack
In no particular order, here is everything else I read.
Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan – 4⭐️ / 2🌶️
Beginning was hard to get through, but it was worth it. I always love the Chinese elements in all her books. Slow burn, enemies to lovers, lost heir, Chinese world. (Free on Kindle Unlimited)

Once upon a broken heart by Stephanie Garber – 3⭐️ / 2🌶️
It’s like a story book fairy tale, with curses, and fates that wreak havoc. It centers around Evangeline who’s a bit too innocent, and hopeful for love. But I love the chaos that is Jacks. Slow Burn, enemies to lovers, magical fairy tale world, curses, poison. (This Trilogy is Free on Kindle Unlimited)
The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber – 4⭐️ / 2🌶️
Out of the trilogy this was my favorite. It had a lot more action and involvement with different characters like vampires. Jacks and Evangeline get closer, yet farther apart. It did make me cry at that one point. Plot twist at the end.
A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber – 3.5⭐️ / 2🌶️
It’s a happily ever ending. I wish they had a better ending though, it was kind of unsatisfying. I think this trilogy is more for younger people because it was cute, but not something I’ll reread or rave about.
Legendary by Stephanie Garber – 3.5⭐️ / 2🌶️
I had to learn more about Jacks back story. It follows Tella, who plays in the Caraval game, and has to discover who the man behind the game is. She’s a likeable relatable fmc, bc she’s literally brave to the point of stupidness, yet afraid and doesn’t want to fall in love. The reveal wasn’t a reveal bc it was obvious who Legend was. (This trilogy is Free on Kindle Unlimited. )
Finale by Stephanie Garber – 4⭐️ / 2🌶️
It was fun, there were more fates causing chaos. Some moments weren’t fleshed out too much.
The Honest Skips!
Forged in blood, Promised in Blood, and Bound in Blood by Sadie Kincaid – 2⭐️ / 5🌶️
(The broken bloodline series. )
I really should’ve let this series be a DNF, but I just had to finish it to see if there would be any progress. I was curious because of some TikTok posts that sucked me in with the vampires. It’s a why choose, reverse harem type book, which I found to be alright in the Ruthless Boys Series. BUT the fmc is so whiny, annoying, and weak. She has 0 character development, actually none of the characters do. It’s a book centered more on spice, than plot. I don’t like books like that. I thought it could get better but it did not. (It’s free on Kindle Unlimited.)
The Mistake by Elle Kennedy – 2⭐️ / 5🌶️
I can understand why Off Campus the show did not choose to do this coupling right after Hannah and Garrett. It was cute, but I just really didn’t love it, and it was a bit boring. It’s a second chance romance, I don’t think that’s my thing. I like the character of Grace, she’s very much her own person, and Logan has some growth too. I’m kinda iffy of reading any of the other books, although I’ve heard The Score is one of the best ones out of the series.
If you made it all the way here, congrats. I really got kind of tired of writing about books that didn’t really hit me as hard as my top 5, if you can tell. I think I read so much this month to fill the void that was left from reading the first 3 books of my top 5. I have so many books on my TBR currently, but I pick things based on vibes, not really in particular order, I might take a breather and read less this month. What books have you read from this list? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments, or message me on Instagram (although I sometimes don’t check that as often as I should).
