My story: healing my acne

I never thought I would ever have to deal with acne again in my life. But I did, and it started back up again in 2021.

In my video, if you haven’t seen it, I took a video of my face in July 2021, and compared it to June 2022. The struggle was so real. My self esteem plummeted. I felt so ugly. I just felt like hiding. I hid behind filters.

It was pretty devastating but at the same time, it was like okay this is what I have to go through to heal right now. I knew it was temporary even though it was painful, and detrimental to my confidence.

Here’s the thing about acne or skin disruptions, they usually come out of your body due to inflammation, stress, hormonal imbalances, or it’s your bodies way of releasing the toxins and crap from your body.

I previously dealt with acne years ago bc of a poor diet, stress, grief, and lack of sleep. I was able to heal it after making lifestyle changes, and never had any problems for years.

Most people, and I’ve been there, is that we use medicated creams and steroids to get rid of the acne. But it’s only “pushing” the acne back into our body. It get’s rid of the acne, or skin problems temporarily, until your body gets used to it, and you need to use stronger and stronger creams. I’ve used everything, and they’re all a bandage and not solving the root of the problem. Even though it sucks, it’s better to let it come out, or deal with it by fixing your lifestyle habits and what you eat.

Unfortunately, I was already doing really well with nutrition, but my body was needing to rebalance and cleanse itself. My acne was coming out along with the classic moon face due to my medication predinosolone (which is for lupus). And my hormones were rebalancing itself out too. Talk about a roller coaster combination.

After my blood work had been improving, my meds were reduced and my acne started to get better. But I was pretty unsatisfied with that, so I did some research and put it to the test. Here are a list of things I did to help with acne, and moon face (please note moon face can improve but might not go away completely if you’re still take medications.):

  • I iced my face everyday, it helped reduce the puffiness of my moon face, and helped the inflammation and pain of my acne. When it was bad, I would sometimes do it twice a day. I now just do it when I feel like it. If you haven’t already icing your face is a game changer! Check out my blog post about the benefits of icing.
  • I tried not to wear any makeup because I didn’t want to clog my pores more. But sometimes I had to, and I just used as little makeup as I could.
  • Nutrition is a big thing with acne in general, but like I mentioned I was eating pretty well, anti-inflammatory, because I was in the process of healing my overall body. It didn’t matter what I ate because it was my medications, combined with my body cleaning itself and releasing the toxins from all the meds and trauma that happened. (But for normal people nutrition is a HUGE part.)
  • I did moisturizing face masks every day. The key to healing acne is to moisturize not to dry it out which is the eastern way of skincare.
  • I started using a moringa oil bc my skin was really dry. It’s anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-aging and has a lot of antioxidants. It doesn’t clog your pores. So many amazing benefits, apparently also really good for eczema, and psoriasis too.
  • As my skin started getting better, I started to add retinol a few times a week at night only. As it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight if you use it during the day. I would also use a spot treatment.
  • I used a foam face wash, and would double wash at night, and only wash my face with water when I woke up. This was a game changer that I learned about and tried to see if it worked, and it did.

These are some of the things that helped me heal my acne. If you want me to share more of the specific products I used, I can make another video on this. I’m really grateful that my skin is healing, glowing and looking even better than before!!

There are honestly sooo many korean skincare produ There are honestly sooo many korean skincare products I want to try. But I have dry and sensitive skin so I can’t do too many products at once. So I’m slowly incorporating these in. And I like to try them for a while before I can really give a solid review.

I had to get the tiktok viral: propelis lipcerin @cnplaboratory.official , and @cosrx snail mucin. I wanted to see if it was worth all the hype.

I’m also a big fan of sheet masks and have heard great things about the @skinfood_official carrot ones.

Thank you @sam_u_official for sending me their ph cream mist. It has amazing reviews, and I’m really loving it!

Lastly, this is more haircare than skincare lol, but the @growus.official scalp scaler and the heat protectant smells so good and helps a lot with my oily scalp and frizz. I also have the cream treatment too.

Taking care of my skin is one of my favorite forms of selfcare. I can’t wait to share more as I work on getting my skin hydrated, plump, and glowing.

Have you tried any of these before? What did you like about it? And which reviews do you want to see first? Let me know in the comments 🫶🫶🫶

Everything we as women are taught about weight los Everything we as women are taught about weight loss and being healthy is not sustainable, and causes way too much stress on our bodies.

We think we’re doing the right thing killing ourselves with fitness. Fitness is supposed to be a part of our lifestyle, not our whole life. It’s also not just working out, moving more in your daily life, sitting less all help us to be active and healthy.

You don’t have to gym if you don’t want to, and you can do workouts at home. It doesn’t make it less intense or less worthy of celebration. It doesn’t “count” less. What counts is that you move your body in a way that’s fun, sustainable and you can be consistent with!!

Things I wish women knew they didn’t have to do to lose weight and workout.
I think it’s quite common to have dim sum at buf I think it’s quite common to have dim sum at buffets. But they’re usually not good at all!

This was a buffet specifically for dim sum. It was delicious! There were quite a few other things too but I was too busy eating to record the rest 😅

Classic dim sum and some with a twist like abalone shau mai, or truffle shrimp dumplings.

And of course, you do need to make a reservation. It was packed!

I talk mostly about health and fitness, and that’s important but it’s also ok to go out and enjoy yourself.

This is life, we need to have balance not just a lot of restrictions.

Also, I’m not denying my cultural foods❤
