How to Host the Perfect “Solo Night In” at Home

We talk a lot about “dating yourself” and taking yourself out to fancy dinners or wandering through museums alone on solo dates. And don’t get me wrong—I love a good outing. But sometimes, the absolute best date you can have is the one where you don’t even have to leave your house.

There is something deeply restorative about hosting a solo night in. It’s not just about “staying home”; it’s about intentionally curating a space where you can recharge, reflect, and enjoy your own company without any external pressure. Even if you’re doing the same old hobbies or rituals its can be fun to romanticize the nights you stay in.

If you’re ready to turn a standard night at home into a true luxury experience, here is how to host the perfect solo night in.

1. Transform Your Space

The difference between “being alone” and a “solo date” is intentionality. It’s about setting the mood, and you honestly don’t have to do all these things. But it can be helpful to let you actually relax, and not think about the millions of things you still need to get done.

  • Kill the overheads: Overhead lighting is the quickest way to ruin the mood. Instead, dim the lights, rely on lamps at eye level or cluster a few candles around your space. It immediately softens the room and signals to your nervous system that the “work” part of your day is over. For more lowkey hobbies like when I’m just reading, or playing cozy games, I like to use my red light, and multitask.

  • Clear your space: It’s hard to relax if you’re staring at a pile of clutter, or when the dishes are still in the sink. Spend ten minutes resetting your space before you start. The worst thing to do is having a bunch of chores nagging you in the back of your mind. A clean, minimal environment helps you breathe and allows you to focus on your evening. It helps to do a closing shift, where you clean up, put everything away, and even prep for the next day. Doing these things can truly allow you to relax without guilt.

2. Design Your Sensory Experience

Now that your space is ready, fill it with the things that make you feel cozy, and put you in the right headspace. These are all optional but can certainly change your regular night ins into something more elevated and intentional.

  • The Soundtrack: Build a playlist that maintains a steady, calm tempo. Think lo-fi, instrumental, or acoustic sets. You want music that fills the room without demanding your focus or killing your vibe with jarring shifts. I personally enjoy listening to some subliminal music which tend to have rain sounds, nature sounds, or just background noise, it’s so soothing. You can choose to play whatever you want depending on the vibe you’re going for. Sometimes we need more upbeat, playful music and that works too.

  • The Outfit: Dressing cozy and chic, is the easiest way to turn the night into something a little more intentional. I know we can just wear the same ol’ t-shirt and sweats we’ve been wearing for years. But this really can shift your mood positively, what we wear impacts our mood far more than we realize. Choose something like a cute matching set, or some cute cozy socks.

  • The Nourishment: Often times we think a solo night in, gives us permission to binge on snacks, or be unhealthy. But it doesn’t have to be that way, try to skip the mindless snacking. Choose a drink or treat that feels like a treat, and an act of self-care. I’m a fan of a hot, calming tea paired with something simple like dark chocolate, nuts, or fresh berries. It is not about over-complicating it; it’s about choosing quality. As a solo date night in idea, you could also cook yourself a nice healthy meal inspired by Pinterest, or try a new recipe.

3. Choose Your Primary Activity

There are countless hobbies, and activities you can choose from for your solo night in. It can be kind of overwhelming but there are so many things you can try. Pick one thing that you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t. During your solo night in, try to make an effort to put your phone away, and avoid mindless scrolling. Think of it as a much needed screen break time. Here are some easy ideas to get you started:

  • The Journaling Session: Use this time to process the week, look at your goals, or just clear your head. You can also find journal prompts that help you actually get to know yourself. It seems so silly but sometimes we forget who we are in the bustle of life. Taking a break to ask yourself questions, and deep dive into yourself can be rewarding, and remind us of who we are and what need in life. Journaling is one of my favorite solo date night’s in, there is no better way to feel centered.

  • The Book Escape: Finally crack open that new book you’ve been waiting for. Whether you’re diving into a new romantasy series or a piece of cozy fantasy, it’s the best way to transport yourself and make the night feel like a real getaway. I love cozying up in a nice blanket, red light, and some calming background music without any lyrics in them. Reading has become one of my favorite past times, which I really loved as a kid, and have recently gotten back into. Often times our hobbies and interests in adulthood, tend to be the ones we loved as kids, so explore those if you have any.

  • Creative Play: Sometimes you just need to get your hands moving. Break out an adult coloring book, start a small craft project, or even organize that one drawer you’ve been ignoring—if it’s satisfying to you, it counts as self-care. The point of doing any arts and crafts project is to allow yourself be bad at something. You do not need to be an expert, allow yourself to enjoy something for the fun of it, and not be a perfectionist. It’s something I struggle with. But it really is a release when you can do something without expecting it to be a masterpiece. If you need ideas for some easy crafts to get started, check out my list of [10 easy low stress hobbies] to try even if you aren’t crafty.

  • The “At-Home” Spa: Lean into your wellness or skincare routine. Whether it’s a castor oil pack or a long, intentional skincare ritual, use this time to nurture your body in a way you usually rush through during the week. There’s actually so many things you can do here, you can give yourself a nice oil scalp massage, or Gua Sha your face. You can even learn how to start doing acupressure, which is basically massaging pressure points for relaxation.

At the end of the day, a “solo night in” isn’t about following a strict set of rules—it’s about giving yourself the same level of care and attention you would offer to a guest you adore. It’s about taking those an hour or two to reclaim your peace, quiet your mind, and remember that your own company is truly the best company you can keep.

So, tonight, dim the lights, put the phone in the other room, and pour yourself something that makes you feel good. You deserve it.

These are my favorite night market staple since childhood. They’re crispy, chewy and airy. And so addictive. This is a classic taiwanese street food you must try!

They also have a variety of topics you can choose from including plum powder. I like mine plain.

Everything you need to know before visiting the St Everything you need to know before visiting the Starbucks Reserve™ Dream Plaza in Taipei, Taiwan. It’s the largest flagship store in the entire Asia-Pacific region, located inside Dream Plaza in the Xinyi district, right next to the 24-hour bookstore. It’s a beautiful space with artwork that’s colorful and bright, and the rooftop has some of the best views of Taipei 101. 🏙️

They’ve recently made some changes to how you reserve seats and updated the purchase minimums (as of April 2026). I wanted to share a quick guide on how to make the best of your visit so you don’t have to figure it out on your own—like which entrance to use if you’re arriving in the morning!

Some special highlights of this location: it’s one of the few with an actual Teavana bar, a bar for coffee-infused cocktails, and a Siren Lounge. I personally love the Teavana bar—that’s where I usually get my favorite tea latte drinks. All of their food and pastries, whether savory or sweet, are quite good. 🥐☕️
