Why host a not-so-scary movie marathon?

While Halloween is often associated with haunted houses and horror flicks, you don’t need jump scares and gore to enjoy the holiday. A movie marathon lets you set the mood with a mix of fun, nostalgia, and lighthearted spookiness. It’s also perfect for any group: friends, family, or even a solo cozy night in. Plus, you can enjoy it at your own pace—whether it’s a single movie night or a weekend binge.

10 Must-Watch Not-so-scary Halloween Movies

Here are some of the best Halloween-themed movies that are perfect for getting into the spirit without the fear factor:

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

A timeless Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus brings witches, spells, and plenty of laughs. It’s perfect for anyone who loves a touch of magic and mischief in their Halloween festivities. The Sanderson sisters are iconic, and their misadventures make this a must-watch every October.

2. The Addams Family (1991)

Get ready for some spooky fun with The Addams Family. This creepy, kooky, and altogether quirky family brings the perfect mix of Halloween vibes with a lot of heart. The film’s dark humor and memorable characters make it a favorite for all ages.

3. Casper (1995)

Friendly ghosts do exist! Casper is a heartwarming, family-friendly film about the friendliest ghost around. It’s perfect for those looking to enjoy a light and sweet story with a touch of Halloween spirit.

4. Ghostbusters (1984)

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! This supernatural comedy brings humor, adventure, and a bit of lighthearted ghost-busting action. Whether you’re watching for the first time or re-living your favorite moments, Ghostbusters is a Halloween staple.

5. Beetlejuice (1988)

Another Tim Burton masterpiece, Beetlejuice offers a quirky, offbeat story with a supernatural twist. With its unique visual style and a blend of comedy and spookiness, it’s the perfect non-scary Halloween flick to add to your list.

6. Practical Magic (1998)

For a more whimsical take on witches, Practical Magic delivers with a mix of romance, drama, and a bit of magical realism. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star in this charming tale about sisterhood, love, and spells.

7. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

While not specifically a Halloween movie, Harry Potter always brings a touch of magic, mystery, and adventure that feels right at home during spooky season. It’s a great pick to start or end your marathon with some enchantment.

8. Queen of the Damned (2002)

Queen of the Damned is a gothic vampire film that perfectly captures the dark, moody atmosphere of the Halloween season. With its stylish visuals, haunting soundtrack, and an unforgettable performance by Aaliyah as the vampire queen, this movie is a must-watch for fans of vampires and supernatural thrillers.

9. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands is a quirky and touching film with gothic, eerie aesthetics that make it perfect for Halloween. The movie’s dark yet whimsical atmosphere, combined with its heartfelt story, makes it a classic choice for a Halloween movie marathon.

10. Warm Bodies (2013)

For a more romantic twist on Halloween, Warm Bodies is a lighthearted zombie film with a love story at its core. It’s fun, charming, and perfect for anyone looking for a Halloween movie with a little humor and heart, rather than terror.

Where to Watch These Movies

All of these Halloween movies are available to rent on Amazon Prime. You can also find them on popular streaming platforms like:

  • Disney+: Hocus Pocus, Edward Scissorhands
  • Paramount+: The Addams Family
  • Peacock: Casper, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Warm Bodies
  • HBO Max: Beetlejuice, Practical Magic, Queen of the Damned, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Movie Marathon Essentials

Now that you have your movie list, it’s time to set the stage for a perfect Halloween movie marathon. You don’t have to go all out with the scary decor unless that’s your thing. I’d rather opt for a cozy fall vibe instead which is what we’ve selected for our marathon essentials. Here’s what you’ll need to create the coziest, most fun movie-watching experience:

1. Comfy Blankets and Pillows

Set up your space with plenty of cozy blankets and pillows. Whether you’re cuddling up on the couch or sprawling out on the floor, comfort is key to enjoying your marathon. We love this thick sherpa fleece throw blanket, or this boho-style chenille throw, great for the living room or bedroom. Add some fun with these pumpkin pillows, or some more fall colors with corduroy throw pillow covers.

2. Snacks and Drinks

What’s a movie marathon without snacks? Pop some popcorn, set out bowls of Halloween candy, and indulge in some fun, themed treats like caramel apples or spooky cupcakes. For drinks, consider making hot cocoa, apple cider, or fun mocktails. Serve on these stylish wooden trays or even create a fun little snackle box with all your fave Halloween treats.

3. Lighting

Keep the lights dim but festive. String up some Halloween lights or place a few candles around the room to set the mood. You can decorate with autumnal-themed string lights with fall maple leaves, or acorns, for a fun fall touch that can also transition into Thanksgiving. We’re loving the hello fall and pumpkin spice candles. If you want to go all out, you can even use Halloween-themed décor to complete the ambiance but we love decorations that can also work for Thanksgiving and all of fall.

4. Dress the Part

You don’t need to go all out with costumes, but consider wearing something Halloween-themed—whether it’s a cozy sweater, a pair of festive pajamas, or even a simple headband with cat ears or a witch hat. Dressing up a little can add to the fun! This is more fun if you have a group of friends, or your family getting together for the movie marathon. But otherwise, I’d opt in for something cozy and basic like this white fleece 2 piece set, or this comfy lounge set.

5. Take Breaks for Fun Games

Between movies, take some time to enjoy Halloween trivia or other themed activities. It’s a great way to keep everyone engaged and break up the marathon with a bit of interactive fun. This might not be your jam, or if you’re doing a solo movie marathon you can skip this. But if you’re having more of a movie marathon movie with friends and family it could add some more fun to it.

Conclusion

Halloween doesn’t have to be all about scares and thrills. With this ultimate movie marathon guide, you can enjoy the best of the season’s fun and magic in a cozy, lighthearted way. Whether you’re with friends, family, or enjoying a solo night in, these movies are sure to bring the Halloween spirit without the spook. So, pick your favorites, grab your snacks, and settle in for a night (or weekend) of fun!

Idc what anyone says… fu hang soy milk is one of t Idc what anyone says… fu hang soy milk is one of the best. They’ve been around since 1958! Yes there’s lots of tourists and the line wraps around the block sometimes. But the lines don’t usually last more than 45 minutes. I don’t like long lines or crowds so I just go earlier. (If you’re jet lagged, just come here and eat at 5:30am).

Everything is made fresh and in house. And you can watch them bake the shaobing in their clay ovens. Many breakfast spots these days buy frozen doughs instead of making it from scratch. It makes a huge difference, in flavor and quality.

I don’t eat this often at all so it’s such a treat. My must eats are the egg pancake (Dan bing); thin Shao bing (thin flatbread) with you tiao (fried dough stick) and ofc their hot sweet soy milk (dou jiang)! And yes I finish all of it myself haha. Their soy milk is so silky smooth. Everything is so good!

This is a realistic and honest what I ate in a day This is a realistic and honest what I ate in a day. I love travelling but it’s not always glamorous and the foods not always great!

I did have a connecting flight from San Francisco to dc, but I had to run to my gate and had 0 time to record anything. But we made it!

I’m loyal to y’all @united but @evaairways is starting a direct flight from TPE to IAD in June… 👀can we get a direct route too? And maybe bring back the mayo & mustard packets for the subs?
