Who’s excited for a new year? Okay so we all might not be on the enthusiastic new year vibes, but let’s try to keep an optimistic and hopeful tone to set goals. And start fresh for the new year.
Although the western world celebrates the New Year’s as January 1st, It doesn’t truly hit until lunar new year on February 1st (The exact day changes every year). But you never need a new year, new week, new month to make an excuse to make goals. We’re human, and it’s in our human nature to want to progress and improve.
Reflect on this past year!
It’s kind of difficult to know where you’re going without recognizing where you’ve been. So grab your journal and let’s reflect on the past 12 months. (I definitely recommend doing this every month, or every week.)
Journal prompts:
- What went well? What are some of your favorite moments?
- What are you proud of? What goals were accomplished?
Celebrate and relish in your wins whether big or small. When we celebrate and be grateful for what was, you can bring that energy into the present and future.
- What didn’t work out or work well?
- What struggles did you face? How did you overcome them?
- What did I learn from that? What can I apply moving forward?
In combination with journaling, I also used my 2022 yearly goals and overview sheets, to help jot my memory of what happened, and what I would like to happen.

Prioritize and make peace with what is important to your heart and soul. Even if they are small ways to bring them into your reality.
Tying it all together and taking action.
It might seem overwhelming, reflecting and reviewing. But it’s so worth it for your own personal happiness and growth. So often we think that “this is the way things are” and that is just not the truth. Every change is possible, it might feel difficult, but once you break through the beginning it gets easier. It’s all in what you believe is possible for yourself.
Instead of focusing on the outcome or results of the goals, we must also focus on taking action and making progress. Our desired results and dream outcomes come to reality based on our choices everyday.
Identify 1 action for one of the areas. And then pick 1-3 action steps to start with.
If it’s overwhelming ask yourself: what is the simplest small step I can take to get started?
Prioritize what works for you! Honor your commitments. Give yourself grace.
Track your progress every week, month or quarter.
Happy goal settings!! And wishing ya’ll an amazing new year!!
